Your First Physical Therapy Appointment: A Complete Guide to Feeling Prepared

ree

It's normal to feel a little nervous before your first physical therapy session. You might be wondering what to expect or if it will be painful. At Max Physical Therapy, we want you to feel completely comfortable and secure. That's why we've prepared this guide so you know exactly what will happen on your first visit.

Your first appointment will focus on getting to know each other. Your physical therapist will not only review your injury but will also ask you questions about your medical history, your lifestyle, and, most importantly, your goals. Do you want to play soccer again? Do you want to be able to bend down without pain? Your answer will help us create a truly personalized treatment plan.

After the initial conversation, your therapist will perform a physical exam. They will evaluate your strength, your range of motion, your posture, and the way you move. This analysis allows us to understand not only where you feel pain, but why you feel it, by identifying the imbalances that caused your injury.

With all the information, your physical therapist will explain a clear and detailed treatment plan. They will tell you what to expect, how many sessions might be needed, and how each exercise will help you reach your goals. It's a collaborative process, and your opinion is vital.

Although the first session is primarily an evaluation, it's possible you will start with some initial treatment, such as gentle manual therapy or basic exercises. This will allow you to feel the benefits of physical therapy immediately.

Remember, the first session is the foundation of your recovery. It's the time to ask questions, express your concerns, and feel confident that you are on the right path.
